Praying for Your Future Husband by Tricia Goyer

5 out of 5 stars
"The amazing thing about prayer is that God has designed this system to release the power of heaven for the person or situation we're praying for. Think of your prayers as the garage door opener that lifts heaven's gates and sends reinforcements to strengthen your future husband. You have most likely not met him yet, but your prayers will make a difference in his life."
--pg. 80, Praying for Your Future Husband.

love that quote! To be honest, that quote pretty much sums up this entire book. Praying for Your Future Husband isn't a book about "formulas" or secret words that will quicken God to bringing your husband to you, but rather, it's about using prayer to make a difference in the life of the man that a young woman will one day marry.

Robin Jones Gunn and Tricia Goyer draw from their own dating and engagement experiences as they share what women should pray for in their future husbands. I believe their unique experiences make this book a treasure for both types of women who are likely to read this book--those who have remained sexually pure for their spouse, and the ones who may have made mistakes.

I love how Tricia Goyer is proof that God doesn't give "second-rate" guys to women who may have formed physical or emotional attachments to men before marriage. The idea of "second-rate" consequences seems to be the theological assessment presented inside the church these days, and to learn that it's far from true is not only refreshing, but a Biblical truth grounded inside the grace of Jesus Christ that shows just how much He loves us.

As a single woman, I can't begin to tell you how helpful I found this book. Inside each chapter, Robin Jones Gunn and Tricia Goyer paint a picture of what young women should pray for their husbands. The idea behind this book is not to pray for God to bring your husband to you, but rather, to bring your husband to you as the man God wants him to be. These authors are quick to point out that God is going to bring him on His timetable.

Until several years ago, I used to pray for my husband quite a bit. Between heartbreak and growing weary of waiting for him to show up, I relinquished the practice. Not intentionally, though. It just fell to the wayside. When you add to the fact that I'm twenty-six, you can almost see how I'm a bit weary.

The chapters on waiting and patience were the most encouraging portions in this book for me. Not only were these chapters encouraging, but somehow, I was able to look back to my past prayers for my husband and know that God has never intended those prayers to be futile.

I love how this book is filled with encouraging and appropriate Scriptures, bullet-point ideas to pray for your future husband, prayers, spaces to write down any thoughts you might have, and discussion questions. Talk about packing a book full of resources!

You'll also find a portion in the back of the book that contains fifty-two (one for each week) prayer ideas and scriptures.

What I love most about this book is that the authors focus on the heartbeat of those prayers--the woman praying them and her relationship with her Creator. They show how God will transform the heart of the one praying to further develop a deep intimacy with God that is essential during those years of dating, that short period of engagement, and the lifetime of marriage.

After reading this book, I feel so encouraged to begin praying for my husband again. I can't wait to one day learn how God worked those prayers in his life!

I definitely recommend Praying for Your Future Husband to every single woman out there.
