First Date by Krista McGee

5 out of 5 stars

Synopsis

The last thing Addy Davidson wants is to be on a reality TV show where the prize is a prom date with the President’s son.

She’s focused on her schoolwork so she can get a scholarship to an Ivy League college, uncomfortable in the spotlight, never been on a date, and didn’t even audition for it.But she got selected anyway.

So she does her best to get eliminated on the very first show. Right before she realizes that the President’s son is possibly the most attractive guy she has ever seen in person, surprisingly nice, and seemingly unimpressed by the 99 other girls who are throwing themselves at him.

Addy’s totally out of her comfort zone but that may be right where God can show her all that she was meant to be.

Review

This book is absolutely awesome! First Date is a unique story that offers readers a modern day re-telling from the book of Esther. To be honest, the author did an amazing job of creating such similar parallels. Every time she revealed another similarity to the book of Esther, I'd whisper in awe, "That's so awesome!"

Aside from brilliantly working in these similarities, Krista McGee also creates a story that will keep you turning the pages. When I started reading this book, my intention had been to start the first chapter and read the rest the next day. That didn't work out too well, because I couldn't stop reading it. I had to know what would happen next.

The characters are sure to capture anyone's imagination! I especially loved the secondary characters in this story. Talk about them coming off the page!

This story also deals with some great spiritual issues that will stop and make young women think. I mean, let's be honest, it does follow a similar course to the book of Esther, but she truly goes beyond the themes found in Esther and makes them applicable to today's young women.

While this story does follow the book of Esther, towards the end it starts to stray a bit away from it.

I really enjoyed First Date. I found it adorable! I definitely recommend this book for young adults. Even women in their twenties (and I'm in my late twenties) will find this book enjoyable.

I can't wait to see what Krista McGee comes out with next!

I recieved a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Publishing, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
